Travelling in Valluvanad

Rail

It is estimated that Valluvanad has 167 kilometres of railway lines. All Railway lines that pass through Valluvanad are Broad Guage and comes under Palakkad Division. The area has only 36 kilometres of Electrified Tracks running from Shornur Junction to Mankara Railway Station. Shornur - Palakkad and Shornur - Thrissur Railway lines are electrified and double. Shornur - Nilambur track is single and not electrified. Shornur - Kozhikode Railway line has completed doubling work, but the electrification is still under progress. The most important Railway Station of the area is Shornur, which is a Junction of 4 routes - Palakkad, Kozhikode, Thrissur and Nilambur.


Road

As Valluvanad spans over a part of Palakkad District and a part of Malappuram District, the actual length of Roads passing through the area is unknown. However, it is estimated that the area is networked with more than 2000 kilometres of roads including 234 Kilometres of National Highway. Panvel - Kanyakumari NH66 (Old NH17) and Palakkad - Mannarkkad - Perinthalmanna NH966 (Old NH213) are the two National Highways that pass through the area. Ponnani, Kuttippuram and Valaanchery are the important towns through which National Highway 17 passes.
