Shornur once had an important place in the map of Southern Railway. Though the railways have always ignored Shornur, this is the most important and longest railway station in Kerala. A large number of long distance express and superfast trains pass through this station. Due to the increase in the number of passengers and lack of amenities, passengers are facing lots of inconveniences. Railway tracks from all four sides (Palakkad, Kozhikkode, Nilambur and Ernakulam) join here and hence there is a long pending demand for setting up of triangular railway station. However, the concerned railway authorities have ignored this demand.

The bridge across the Nila river is known as Cochin bridge as this connects the Malabar area to southern parts of Kerala. The Palakkad - Kulappully state highway is just 4 kms away from Shoranur.
